Back in the neighborhood

Back from this year big vacation trip. New York was great. I was reminded about all the things i forgot that I missed...sigh... Food was good, playgrounds clean and fun and the grocery stories was like being in heaven compared to boring Norwegian stores. And not to meantion art, people, noodle shops and cafe's. Even the subwayride downtown was okay, and the people less irretating... Or maybe it was just me? Did it really take me 4 1/2 years out of Manhattan to lower my shoulders and not start to scream: Bitch and Fuck off to every idiot crossing a bit to close to my kids comfort zone. Anyway New York was great and the friends still felt like family....

- and then we went off to San Diego and the real family.
California...mmmm. I forgot how wonderful California can be. The smell, light, the sound of waves and plam trees. The food, the fresh fish tacos, the huge smoothies, the sweet fruit, the salsa. And the entartainment parks. Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, Six flags, Legoland....

Great conversations with my kids

When Vyom was a small baby I was dying to hear what he had to say. I was so curious about the content of his little head. I had an image of long and deep conversations with a cup of coffee for me and hot cocoa for my boy. We would talk about everything. What happen at school, who did he play with, who did he have a crush on, and of course all the big questions; What's out there behind the clouds? Does God exist? What happen to us when we die? What's the meaning with life? etc. etc.
But the conversations around the dinner table usually goes like this: Vyom: What's that green thing? Must I eat it? Urk, I don't like it! Me: It's a string bean, yes you must it - it's just one. And I don't want to hear you say you don't like it. Vyom: But I don't like it! Me: I don't care! Just eat it, now!!! Pause when Vyom pour a ton of ketchup on the string bean and eats it, act likes he is going to die and guggles down a glass of water. Me: What did you do at school today? Vyom: I played! Me: With whome? And did you not learn anything? Vyom: Yes, I had math. And I played with Mina, Theo, and Joachim. Mom, who is best in Star Wars? Is it ???? or ????? Me: I don't know ask your dad. Vyom: But today I was OB1(?) on this new level and it was realy hard and blablablabla clones blalablabla Princess Leah's guards blablabla. Me: Hmmmm. Vyom: Takk for maten (Thank's for the food) Vyom takes his plate and glass, put it by the dishwasher and leaves for the sofa and his DS game player. Me sitting left at the table wondering how my plan went wrong.

Stubborn kids and kids with fever

If I meet somebody I have not seen in a very long time I sometime find myself saying: "If I knew how much fun it is I would have started much sooner" - referring to the two kids my love and I produced together.
Couple of days ago, early morning I was sitting in bed with my two year old on the lap, he just vomit all his morning milk and was loudly claiming he did not want those pants, but the ones with cars on. The six year old was curled up behind my back coughing and running a pretty high fever. My love was on his knees on the floor cleaning up the milk. Thinking about it for a moment I declared: It is so much fun having kids! I got no answer from the man on the floor.
